In case my memoir wasn’t enough…

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO WRITE THIS BOOK?

Every book I read when I started to date seemed initially with me in solidarity but neatly ended with, “…and THEN I suddenly met the man of my dreams!” So I wrote the book that I wished existed when I was taking grenades in the dating trenches.

IS EVERYTHING IN THE BOOK TRUE?
Yes*.

(*with the caveat that I had to change identifying characteristics of my characters to protect both the innocent and the bitchy.)

HOW CAN I HELP SUPPORT YOU?

First off, thank you. Second, since you asked…

1. Buy the book (and a copy for your best friend if you enjoy it or a copy for your enemy if you don’t).
2. Leave a (glowing) review where you purchased it.
3. If you’re into Goodreads, add it to your library and leave a (glowing) review on Goodreads, too.
4. Tell everyone about the book! Word of mouth is big for indie authors. I kept getting feedback from agents/publishers that they liked my writing but there was “no audience for this.” I self-published because I believe in this book and hope it can bring joy to the world. I don’t have some publishing house’s marketing blitz behind me, but I have something better. (You!)
5. Follow me on Instagram and Goodreads.
6. Let me know if you have a connection to a local bookstore, bar, etc. where I can hold a reading or signing event via jscribbles137@gmail.com.

CAN I PURCHASE YOUR BOOK DIRECTLY FROM YOU?

Not right now. I have a few purchasing options available here, but I’m not operating a bookstore out of my house. A mass printing stack of 1,000 books cluttering my place in ceiling-high piles would kill the vibe. The best way to support me is to buy the book and then leave a review!

CAN WE STOCK YOUR BOOK AT MY LOCAL BOOKSTORE?

I would LOVE that like a city pigeon loves finding an onion ring on the sidewalk! If you are interested in stocking my book at your independent bookstore, let me know at jscribbles137@gmail.com.

WHO OWNS THE RIGHTS TO YOUR BOOK?

Me! I am the publisher and I own my ISBN.

WHAT WAS SELF-PUBLISHING LIKE?

Hellacious and aggravating, but also deeply satisfying that no one else tinkered with my creative work. I started by reading a self-published book on self-publishing, which was very meta and also a little confusing. The book helped with the general concepts of what to do, but I was not mentally prepared for the 5,000 tedious steps required. However, seeing this baby in print makes the hours (DAYS?) of my life spent getting it out there worth it.

WHY IS YOUR WEBSITE AND INSTAGRAM HANDLE “JSCRIBBLES137?”

I’ve always loved to write AKA “scribble” and Scribbles137 was my first AOL screenname. Incidentally, it was a nickname given to me by the first girl I ever had a crush on.
